All about Myself and My Family

I am Ray Mark Odchigue. I am fourteen years old now. I am studying at the University of the Philippines High School. I live at D-1 Enlisted Personnel Quarters, Apas, Cebu City. I have two brothers and one sister. My brothers are Ian Odchigue, Rey Odchigue Jr. while my sister is Reyshel Odchigue. My brothers are studying at Apas Elementary School while my sister is studying at Lahug Christian Evangelical Free Church. During my elementary years, I have studied at three different schools. These are Lahug Christian School, Camp Evangelista Elementary school and Apas Elementary School. My parents are Shirley Odchigue and Rey Odchigue. We are living happily and fine on our own home together. My hobbies are sleeping, eating, reading books, playing online games and watching television. I am an Acolyte Server or Knights of the Altar. I am devoted to St. Therese of the Child Jesus. I am serving at the St. Therese Parish Church near the University of Southern Philippines. I served there every Sunday at 9:00 AM in the morning or at 5:00 PM in the afternoon. I am also a member of a religious group devoted to Mother Mary called “Legion of Mary”. This means that we are soldiers of Mary. We had a meeting every once a week on Sunday at 1:00- 3:00 PM in the afternoon.
During my first three years as being an elementary, I have studied at Lahug Christian School, and then during the next six months, I have at Camp Evangelista Elementary School in Cagayan de Oro City and finally, during the next two and a half years, I have studied at Camp Lapulapu Elementary School. Now I have reached my goal in life, because I am now in the University of the Philippines studying and finishing my studies. Here in the UP, we are called the “Iskolar ng Bayan” and UPIANS because all the money of the people goes to us and serve as a payment foe books, repairing infrastructures inside the Campus and less payment of tuition. So, I am trying my very best to improve my grades as well as my character building and by not letting the other people down especially my parents.
I have described myself as tall, a little bit handsome, have short hair, have black eyes and have a brown skin. Today, I am called by my classmates as a heartthrob together with the other boys but it is okay for us because we loved it and we know that it is only a joke and it is not a reality. In doing so, I am trying my best to wear my complete uniform everyday and being punctual at all times in any school and class activities. I am trying my best also to be well-neat at all times and to be a well-groomed boy also. And another thing also, aside from being well-neat and well-groomed, I am doing also my very best in submitting my project always because project counts a lot and it does improve my grades. And in submitting my projects, I see to it that it is complete, well-organized, very neat and consistent to be submitted to the teacher. And the last thing is before, I went to school everyday, I always ask God for help, protection and guidance. That’s all, thank you.

My Love Affair with MVDuolos and Books

he MVDuolos was in Cebu since January 26 until February 19, 2007. It was built in 1914. It is only two years younger that the Titanic. Duolos is the World’s Largest Floating Book Fair, carrying 6,000 book titles across the oceans to different parts of the globe. The Duolos ship has 350 volunteers from 50 countries live and work together onboard of the MVDuolos. Duolos seeks to bring Knowledge, Help and Hope to the nations of the world. Since 1977, Duolos has visited more than 100 countries around the globe, welcoming over 19 million visitors on the ship. Duolos carries a stock of half a million books for sale, covering subjects such as Science, Education, Sports, Cookery, History, Technology, Photography, Christian Living, and a wide range of Children’s Literature. MVDuolos is one of my beloved ships of all time because it is giving free education to everyone even before the ship has not arrived in Cebu yet is I like it already before I saw it in personal. This ship brings joy and happiness to everyone because this ship contains books and other beneficial things that may help and lead to the development of education of each country that they will visit.
And another thing is I loved books very much because when you read a book, your mind and imagination is working to help initialize and understand the things better that you read. There are five essential and basic skills that you should know as a student and a person. These are reading, speaking, writing, listening and comprehending. Because when you listen, you can speak and while you can speak you can read and when you read, you can comprehend and write the things that you want to write. Reading is one of the most important basic skills because when you read, you can go to far away and distant places that you want to go even if you are not going there. That is why you can imagine and think already what these places would look like. As if your there to see what is there and what is happening in that place. And just by reading you are learning something that might help in your future. And while your learning, keep these things on mind and stock these on your head just like banking. Because when you bank, you can deposit and withdraw your money like putting it on your head. And you can withdraw it from your head when it is time to express what you learn to others.
Books are so important to us persons because books are knowledge of life. They supply the things that you want to learn. Books are cheaper and better compared to computers and laptops. They are free and you can just read it always when you have a time. They are one way of improving and civilizing the humankind from being ignorant and for the economy. The most important book of all is the Bible. The Bible contains the word of God that plays a very important role in our life. The Bible serves us guide and pathway to righteousness. And when you read it, you are just looking at the God. That is why books are better than any technology in the world.

My Elementary Years

During my elementary years, I have met many friends as well as teachers and parents as well. I have received many medals, ribbons and awards. I also have encountered many difficulties and problems especially the Math and English subjects. But I resolved these problems and difficulties because of the help of my parents, friends and teachers who always gave me an advice on what to do. But the one who is behind my success and fame was the Lord. The Lord always watches me and guides me in the right path. He always teach me of what is right and what is wrong to do even if I cannot see Him I feel that He is beside me, protecting me from harm and injuries.
During my elementary years also, I remembered all the things that we had done together. I want these happenings would happen again if we would have a time to have a reunion. But the most memorable moment I have is when we have a presentation during our graduation. We presented about The Little Lady Mermaid in the front of the stage.
On first three years of being an elementary, I studied at Lahug Christian School, and then I studied at Camp Evangelista Elementary School and finally, I studied at Apas Elementary School. I have experienced of being nervous often because when I transfer from one school to another I have met many students just like me and I am ashamed to faced them but when it is two to three days after I transfer, I am starting to recognized my friends already. I have many different friends from Visayas to Mindanao. During my elementary years I have experienced many field trips such as those when we went to Family Park, and Avellana National High School. But I have also bad experiences. One of bad experiences is that when I was scolded by my teacher because I am always playing instead of studying to maintain my ranking. I have also joined many contests. These are Metro bank Math Challenge, Science Quiz Bee, Sci-Dama, Science and Technology Fair and the Copy Reading Headlining. But only three of these I have won. For the Science Quiz Bee, I won a gold medal, in Metro Bank Math Challenge, I won the second place and for the Sci-Dama, I won the third place award. This contests that I won inspired me to work and study harder for my education and to graduate elementary. During the graduation of the grade six level, I have received the Valedictorian Award and I received also two thousand pesos cash. I also have received six medals, certificates, ribbons and special awards. I also received the Don Sergio Osmeňa Excellence Award at White Gold House in the North Reclamation Area. After my graduation, I received right away my diploma and I went to the Jollibee with my family. We ate hamburger, French fries and fried chicken. After that we went to the church to thank God for giving us blessings everyday.
I missed my friends and teachers during my elementary years but it is time to move on and accept again many trials that would come. But it is okay because God is with me, my family and friends who are helping overcome it.

My Experience in the MV Duolos and Outside the Pier

On February 13, 2007, the first years and second years agreed that they will visit the largest floating library at 1-5 pm in the afternoon. Going there we took and rode on jeepneys. We take six jeepneys on board and it is fully occupied. We paid three hundred pesos as the jeepney fair back and forth. We passed along Zapatera Elementary school and Jollibee stores. When we arrived there, we fall in line on boarding the M.V. Duolos ship. Upon on board we read books and search for the cheapest price of a book but there are only few persons who bought books. The books on board are cheaper compared to the books of supermarkets and bookstores. After reading books, we went to the other part of the ship to watch a program. The program was nice and smooth. There was games and contest in their program. When its time to go home, we received leaflets and books given by the crew of the ship. Before that, while I am inside the M.V. Duolos Ship I read books about God, fairy tales and horror stories. I also watched the sea while I am on the M.V. Duolos Ship. I saw huge ships such as Galkiong, Batangas Ship and Gothong. I also saw huge oil tanker and cargo ships. While inside the M.V. Duolos Ship, backpacks are not allowed and children under sixteen years of age should not pay ten pesos for the entrance fee upon boarding the M.V. Duolos Ship. The M.V. Duolos Ship has visited many countries and nations to sell books on cheaper prices. In that way they spread education to all parts of the world. Upon on board, there are about a hundred crews and there are different nations upon on board. While I am roaming inside the M.V. Duolos Ship, I saw other schools such as VNBC and ALC. and on that day also, while I am reading the books, I discover that God went back into heaven because He cannot send the Holy Spirit if He is there on the land. In fact the M.V. Duolos Ship is two years younger than the Titanic but it is smaller compared to the Titanic. And the most important of the M.V. Duolos Ship is that it contains a library department that consists of different kinds of books. Maybe the books there may reach of a thousand in capacity and may weigh a hundred tonnes if compiled altogether. But the most exciting and unforgettable experience that I felt is that when its time to go home but the jeepneys were not around yet. So we waited for almost an hour until the jeepneys arrived then. But our jeepney was not there. We only saw the jeepneys of our other classmates and schoolmates. So we waited again for another hour until our jeepney will arrive. But we felt sad and tired because we are the only one left in the port of the M.V. Duolos Ship but we did not lose hope. Instead we play and take pictures of ourselves. When the jeepney arrived in the port, we are so happy because we did not felt our boredom when we waited the jeepney to arrive in the port.

On Being Taught By Students

It so nice to be taught by a fellow student. It is like learning like a professional teacher but only one thing is they are just your classmate. You have to behave orderly and properly so that the student teacher will give you points. The student teachers work like a professional teacher. They discuss very well and give test when needed. The student teachers ask questions that the students should answer but if the student cannot answer, they will have a minus point. They record the scores every time a test was given. And after the discussion, they sometimes gave games and singing contest. We have so much fun when the teacher is your fellow classmate. You would not forget the happenings you would have. The student teachers have so many different attitudes. One teacher is strict and the other is patient and calm. But the most important thing is you should respect your teacher as if they were like a professional teacher even if it is a student or your fellow classmate.
The student teacher is like your second mother. They guide you in the correct path and help you in learning easily especially the difficult lessons that have not understood. They correct when you are wrong and teach you to behave properly like an educated student of the country. Once the student teacher gets angry, they punish someone who misbehaves incorrectly and report this to the teacher. The student teacher sometimes is misunderstood but they are just a human being and your classmate who needs help when they had encountered a difficult problem in life. Student teachers also study their lessons during the night. They prepare notes and tests for us the next day. They also want us to review our lessons because they want us to learn the discussion easily, clearly and quickly.
When the student teacher discusses the lesson, the students should listen and pay their attention to the teacher in front of the class. But if the student did not listen to the one talking in front, the student will replaced the one talking in front of the class. He or she would be sent to disciplinary action and sometimes shall be suspended. In that way, the students should listen to the teacher who is discussing in his or her assigned topic given by the professor-in-charge. Sometimes these student teachers are not doing their job properly because they are only laughing and talking with their teammates and only telling ghost stories in class but there are student teachers who perform their job properly. They are doing their very best to teach us more accurately and systematically. Student teaching helps one of us to improve our hidden talents and express our own opinions in the class. In about a two day activity of “Know Your School Day”, we have learned so much about our classmates, lessons that are very difficult and language skills in English. This activity was so fabulous and amazing that I am so inspired to teach other students in the next year level. I hope this activity would for a long time until I graduate in UP High School because it helps us to be more sensitive and more careful in listening and answering the questions given the teacher-in-charge.

What the Stars And Sky Tell Me About Life?

The stars and sky tells something about our destiny. It shows patterns or formations of stars and sky during the night. The astrologers believe that stars and other heavenly bodies may form a figure and signs about our future and sometimes they wrote something about our horoscopes. They also predict the events or happenings that may or may not happen in the future. But for me, this is not true because stars and the sky can only be used to predict weather and to predict also if a typhoon is coming. There is no such reality that the stars and the sky can tell about your destiny and your future. But the stars and sky are both important in your life. Without them you cannot see the sky during the night. You can only see the darkness and without also the sky, you cannot survive and there is no atmosphere. Stars and sky are of great importance to us because without them, you cannot feel the feeling of being alive and you cannot see the true meaning of the world. Another stars and sky can be one of the components of life. They give meanings and messages that sometimes can be understand and may expressed the true meaning in a different way. Like life, the stars may shine bright or may shine dim depending on the sky. The light of the star shows that a life of a human being may on top and sometimes below. It is like a wheel that rolls and rolls until it stops to the point of its destination. It can be compared to life because when the wheel stops to roll, it may expressed that life has its ending and stops to a certain point that is called “death”. The light of the star may also show that happiness has its ending. Happiness does not last for long. It may take only a minute to last and may exchange to sadness again. That maybe the true meaning of life compared to a star and a sky. Star and sky does not talk but they only expressed their meanings in such a way that someone has really understood about the true meaning of life and love. Life is so short and time is so fast. You would not notice the time that you wasted and the time that you are just playing and doing something bad to others instead of using them to ask forgiveness and mercy to someone that you have done something wrong. Time is gold, it is important and you should not waste it because every second, every minute and every hour counts a lot to you. It is just like the star. The star died when all of the hydrogen are used up and cannot create anymore nuclear fusion. It is like life that you wasted just for playing, taking drugs and drinking alcoholic drinks. In so doing, you should start now the changes you should do to someone and to yourself so that you would not fail because life can be taken from us even were children and not an adult already.

My Experience during Intramurals 2006

Last year, on November 27-29, the University of the Philippines held an activity which the students liked most. Each year level must specify a game to join and each event may consist of three to six players except for the major events. There are three major events of the Intramurals. These are the Basketball, Soccer and Volleyball. But before the Intramurals of the high school, the college also did their Intramurals on the University of the Philippines High School. They perform Mr. and Mrs. Intramurals, cheer dancing and other performances. They are consisting of divisions. These are the Social Science Division, Political Science Division and other divisions which had a high impact on sports. This year the over-all champion of the Intramurals is the Social Science Division. While on the high school level is the fourth year level. During the Intramurals, I joined two major events and one minor event. These are Basketball, Volleyball and Dama. In the Volleyball event, we are on the fourth place. On the Basketball event, we are on the fourth place again and on the Dama event, we are on the third place. In the Dama event, the players should only consist of two to three players while on the basketball and volleyball, the players should only consist of five to six players only. During the start of every game of each event, I felt very nervous that we could not won against other year levels but we did not lose hope because it is just a game of friendship and sportsmanship. Even if you lose or you won, it is just okay because playing is just for fun and no hard feelings for that if you lose the game. If you lose the game, it is not the end of the world; it is just the beginning of the new challenge waiting for you in the future. During the closing program of the Intramurals, we have performed pop dance, doble Kara and singing performance. On the Doble Kara, my classmate got the first place and he got a gold medal. On the singing contest, we won the second place and the silver medal and on the pop dance, we got the third place and the bronze medal. And the over-all ranking we got on the intramurals was only fourth place and a bronze trophy. This time I felt the happiness and frustrating feeling of being a player of any event of sports. When the Intramurals has ended I felt the feeling of proud ness and success because I brought something beneficial and useful to I-Bartlett and all the first years, this something I brought was honor to all first years and all year levels. Even the first years got the last place on the over-all ranking of the tally of scores, we have just bring honor to all Upians because we expressed the one of the best deed of all character traits, the being of sportsmanship.
I hope the next Intramurals would have been the same as this year and it would be happier and merrier than what it should be. And it will have more participants than last year.

Overnight Stargazing

Overnight stargazing was so entertaining and thrilling. I have always dream of joining stargazers but my parents would not allow me because it is dangerous and it is near the squatters’ area. And I am jealous with my classmates because every morning after their overnight stargazing they are talking with their experiences they have saw and experience during their night here on UP High School Campus. But the time has come and it is my time to join them on their stargazing. On the eve of February 2, 2007, we have stargazing with my classmates here on UP high School Campus. This time my parents allowed me to join this activity because it included in the connection of Science 1-C and UP Stargazers Society. When the night has come I already arrived here on UP High School. I saw my classmates preparing their things for stargazing. I was also enjoyed staring at them because they are doing cooperation with each other. I also prepared my things for the activity to experience also what they have experience. When Madame Gallo has arrived we have already unfolded our things in the ground and we start our stargazing but there is something happened. We did not see the stars instead we look at the moon. After we looked at the moon, we went to the LEADER to have a lecture with Mr. GO, a famous Cebuano Astrologer. We discussed about the Jupiter’ red spot junior and Saturn watching. After the discussion, we watched a horror movie. The movie we watched was Shutter. After we watched the movie we went back to the grounds of UP High. When I am so sleepy and tired, I want to sleep but my classmates always played with me. They do not want me to go to sleep. When my drowsiness went away because of my classmates, I went to the LEADER to keep away my boredom. When I arrived there I saw some of my classmates watching Saw 3. I also watch. When the movie ends, I went back again to the grounds. I waited for stars to be seen but nothing happens at all. When the dawn comes I packed my things to be carried at home. After I packed all my things, I washed my face. And then we have a picture taking. When the time comes that it is time to go home I have imagined that this kind of activity would happen again.
Overnight stargazing was more fun than I think. I have experience to be bond with my classmates and I saw the true color of my classmates. I hope this activity would happen again and I hope that I could really see a star by looking at the telescope. It came to happen that another activity will happen again not here on UP High School but at the University of San Carlos. There you are assured that is very secure and it is more fun because we will watch Saturn. This activity will happen on March 3, 2007. I hope my parents will allow me again to participate in this activity. And I hope also that my experiences that happened in UP will also happen on San Carlos.

My Life as a Teenager

I have so many experiences during my teenage years like not being scolded by the parents always and had so many friends that help me in solving my problems in life. Being a young adult is fun, exciting and adventurous. You have so many changes in the way you behave, talk, think and play. Your life as a young adult starts here in this period of your life. In the way you think, your mind starts to grow and wide. You have understood many things that you had not understood before. In the way you conduct yourself and talk, there is a big change. You often behave act as an adult and not being treated like children anymore by your parents and friends. When you also, sometimes your voice becomes harsh and sometimes become sharp. And when you speak you have to think your words first before you speak because you become shy and can cause trouble and arguments between your friends and your enemies. And the way you engage in recreation, you like to play sports especially basketball and soccer but you do not like to play games such as patintero, and hide and seek. Teenage life is beautiful and fun. There are so many changes of your life and way you like to be treated.
Life becomes more significant and momentous during this period. Your feelings start to change to your friend and family. Your binding to God, to your family and friends become so strong that no one can wipe it out. And you start to feel love to your loved ones. You start to feel green-eyed to your crush and you want anyone to love you as much as they could give to you. Young teenagers start to smoke cigarettes and drink alcohols but anyone can prevent it by just ignoring it and nothing to be felt about it.
Being a teenager is like an adult. You have as if you are starting to build up your skills and talents. And you like to stand alone on your own feet without the help of anyone. You like things you want to be right away on your front in flip of a second. And the most important is your physical form develops like, your shoulders becomes more broader, your muscles become bigger and your hair starts growing in different parts of your body. And at this stage, you are starting to disobey your parents. Your head becomes bigger because of your pride and you feel like that you are not loved by your parents anymore because you feel jealousy to your brothers and sisters because you think they are only the ones cared and treated nice by your parents. As of I am I having already on the right time to think on my own and not be depending on anyone else on my around my surroundings. But there is the most important thing that you should know as a teenager; you are only the ones hope of country to the development of our economy in the next generation of civilization.

My Life As A Student

My life as a student was so remarkable and exhausting. During the night I prepared my things for the next day. I do my home works and my lessons, after that I sleep early. Early in the morning, I have to go to school early so that I would not be late in the class and to review my lessons that I have studied last night so that I am fully prepared for the tests during the day. This kind of preparations helps me in overcoming the activities in the school and giving me a less effort in preparation for any class activity and I always have much energy remaining so that I could help my parents after the dismissal time in the school. After those preparations, I thank the supernatural being for keeping me safe all the time and for giving me strength in answering the test questions during exam. Before class hours ends and it is time to go home, I arrange my things and I carry only the things I needed to study and answer at home. When I arrived home I help my parents in doing household chores because that is the only time I help my parents in cleaning inside the house and washing the plates after eating evening meal.
Being a student was so hard than you think because you have to do all the assignments given by the teacher and you have to wake up early in the morning even if you are so sleepy so that you will not be late before classes’ starts. But that is okay because in that way you are helping your parents achieve their goals for your future and you can repay the hard works of your parents for you. You as a student should not be involved in gangs and fraternities because it will destroy your life and your future given by your parents. And you should not also drink liquor and smoke cigarettes because it will slow down your memory and will destroy your character standing in the school. You should also maintain your grades in the class so that you will be in the honors list and your parents will be proud of you.
Being also a student is like a professional job but it is not an ordinary job only because you are the way in improving the economy of our country, the Philippines. Your goal as a student is to finish your studies in the school and find a job suited for you and your course. Before that, finishing your studies is a complicated job also because there are so many young people like me encounter problems like lack of money, illnesses, and poverty but these are not hindrance to your success if you have the fighting spirit and the attitude “I can do it”. When you finish your studies also, one thing you do is find a job so that you can help your parents, your brothers and sisters in finishing their studies. But if you have the courage and devotion to God you can really achieve your goals in life and making your parents happy for you.
